Back in November I was lucky to meet and get to paint for a few days with the terrific painters: Joe Forkan, Andrew Dickson, Eric Merrell, and Yu Ji out at the Salton Sea. We stayed at Andrew Dickson’s grandparents home which was a short walk to the Sea. (fascinating place for those not familiar with it.) I hope to get back here soon as I felt I didn’t have time to get comfortable enough with the place to allow me to fully explore it’s potential. I tend to have trouble painting and travel but here is what I managed to come up with.

giant strides! looking great. i’m back painting which is why i haven’t been able to comment as much (very limited time) lately. glad to see such nice work. i really love the blue over the reddish brown on white pelicans.
very best regards,

Thanks Neil, The pelican painting was originally a one sitting from life but then I decided to basically repaint most everything in the studio. It originally had a pelican in the foreground but looked very wrong no matter what I did, I think somethings resist painting by their very nature. If you ever get back out to San Diego for any length of time maybe you’ll want to go out here to the Salton Sea to paint – amazing place.
good to hear from you and terrific that you’re back painting. More still life’s? I’ll be looking forward to seeing your new work. Keep in touch when you can.
