I am honored to announce that my painting, Imperial Valley Boogie Woogie, was chosen to be a part of the Blue Mountain Gallery Annual Juried show with Elisa Jensen Juror. This is what I had to say about this painting…
Imperial Valley Boogie Woogie, connects the spirit of Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie Woogie to Google Earth satellite imagery of Southern California’s Imperial Valley in the Colorado Desert. Here we see the anomalous geometric patterns of agriculture and irrigation at odds with the desert reclamation.
This painting was part of a recent show, a splash quite unnoticed, Salton Sea Paintings, which visually explored the mystery and beauty of California’s largest lake, the Salton (accidental) Sea. Since the early 1900’s agricultural runoff from farms in the Imperial Valley has prevented the Salton Sea from evaporating. However, In January of 2018 due to political decisions, this inflow ceased and will eventually cause the lake to shrink dramatically, seriously threatening the environment for large portions of Southern California.
