View from Mission Trails

October 19, 2007 By larry groff

I moved to San Diego from Boston back in August of this year. My wife and I moved here to help take care of Father who has some serious heart problems. My brother, Harry had been helping him out but he was deployed to Afghanistan for a year, he is an Infectious Disease MD for the Navy. Anyway, this painting is one of the first paintings I did once I got settled enough to start painting again. Not the greatest photo but the scene shows some possibilities for returning sometime. Not one of my favorites, I gotta admit.

Mission Trails again

October 17, 2007 By larry groff

Mission Trails is only about 5 minutes away from our new home. I often go there to paint these one sitting small, generally 8 x 10″ oil paintings on panel. This photo and the previous shows the color totally out of whack and is blurred to boot. I plan to retake photos of several of these little paintings I did when we first moved here. I am posting them now largely due to my impatience to finally get this blog thing going again and put up this work – eventually I will come to my senses and edit out the dogs and bad photos…

Mission Trails Palm

October 15, 2007 By larry groff

If I were a real Californian I would tell you what type of palm this is. I should know by now but sorry to say that isn’t the case. Palms trees are still a thrill, hope to paint paint much better ones as I get my palm chops up to speed.

Grinding Rocks – take 2, Mission Trails Study

September 24, 2007 By larry groff

another view of the Grinding Rocks. I thought I found this idyllic place where I could get away from curious people but found out this is the number one spot for whole classrooms of grammar school kids who love to pepper plein air artists with many difficult questions…

Grinding Rocks, Mission Trails Study

September 6, 2007 By larry groff

I think this was the first little painting I did in San Diego, I liked the Grinding rocks area of Mission Trails as it gave some respite from the grinding mid-day heat!
