Under the 805, Oil on canvas 36x 48 inches 11/29/09
I think I’ve finished this, at least I plan to leave it alone for awhile. I’ve been working on the the past few weeks, under the 805 where it meets Rt 8 – in the parking lot for Dave and Busters. I am ready to move on to my next project up in the mountains.

Cuyamaca Burnt Tree Grove, Oil on linen 18x 24 inches 11/04/09
I hiked into a spot in the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, near the Stonewall Mine area for this awesome stand of burnt trees from the big Witch Creek fire here in 2003. I am thinking of exploring this subject further. Sadly, this particular spot is about an hour’s drive so the logistics of getting there is tougher.

Clouds over the Mission Trails Grasslands, Oil on panel 8x 10 inches 10/17/09
I hiked up the Oak Canyon Trail in Mission Hills in the Grasslands area for this view.

North Park Intensely – 28th and University, Oil on linen 20″ x 24″ 10/09
Looking over University Ave from 28th street. I painted this on site over several days. Meet a number of interesting people. On the right you see my favorite place for breakfast in San Diego – The Mission.

Sunset over Mission Valley Seem From Navaho Road, Oil on panel 8x 10 inches 9/18/09
I usually feel disappointed with chasing sunsets with paint. The changes to the light and color happen so fast it seems impossible. This is one of the few sunsets I’ve done that I’m happy with.

This is a painting I recently finished, only a few blocks away from where I live – a small park on top of a steep hill over looking Mission Valley – you can see the glint of sun off the ocean in the far distance. The marine layer atmospheric effects gives everything an incredibly magical feel. I need to retake this photo – the white balance must have been off on my camera, everything looks too blueish.
